Laker Athletics Welcomes Megan Edmunds as Marketing & Communications Assistant

The Lake Superior State Athletics has announced the hiring of Megan Edmunds as the department’s Marketing and Communications Assistant for the 2018-19 season.

Megan Edmunds PortraitIn a ten-month position, funded through an NCAA grant, Edmunds will be heavily involved in the department’s communications, marketing, game management, sponsorship and sales efforts.

“We are excited to have someone of the caliber of Megan join our management team,” said Director of Athletics, Dr. David Paitson. “Megan will become an important part of our team contributing to our marketing and communications operations.  We’re appreciative of this opportunity through the NCAA and thank Erica Newland (Sponsored Programs Administrator at LSSU) for her assistance in securing this position.”

Earlier this spring, Lake State Athletics was awarded the NCAA DII Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant to fund this position.  The grant is designed to provide financial assistance to Division II conferences and member institutions committed to enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in intercollegiate athletics.  It also promotes the creation of entry-level, administrative positions to encourage access, recruitment, selection and the long-term success of ethnic minorities and women.

“Being selected for this internship is an honor and I cannot thank LSSU and the NCAA enough for this opportunity,” said Edmunds. “I’m beyond excited to represent Lake State Athletics, gain valuable experience and continue to grow in my career.”

Edmunds arrives at LSSU after spending the last year as a communications intern with the Vegas Golden Knights. As a member of the game night staff, Edmunds’ primary responsibilities included operating media credential & meal check in, running statistics, transcribing postgame press conference quotes and compiling daily media clippings for organizational personnel. Edmunds was also selected by NHL Event Communications Committee to work for the 2018 NHL Awards Ceremony.

Prior to her time with the Golden Knights, Edmunds spent more than two and a half years as the Media & Web Editor for the University of Nevada Las Vegas club hockey program. Her primary responsibilities included producing game previews and recaps, managing team social media platforms and assisting with team marketing and promotional functions.

While at UNLV, Edmunds earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies with a concentration in Integrated Marketing Communications in December of 2017. Edmunds also served as president of the Public Relations Student Society of America – UNLV Chapter.

Lake Superior and Edmunds are one of just six institutions or conferences to receive this grant across the division.
