Heidi Marshall Exhibit

The public is invited to visit the Arts Center Gallery at Lake Superior State University to enjoy “Painting Wildness,” an exhibition of 27 paintings by award-winning artist Heidi A. Marshall.  The show will run through the months of September and October.

The exhibit is comprised of plein air landscape paintings across northern Michigan as well as sites in America’s National Parks. Gallery director Sharon Dorrity states: “We are very pleased to offer an exhibition of paintings by an internationally recognized artist with such compassion for the beauty of the land.” Marshall’s work has earned awards in local arts competitions, at the state level, nationally and internationally. Dorrity added that Marshall was selected for a residency as a National Parks Painter by the US Department of the Interior.

Heidi Amenda Marshall has become well known internationally for the poetic strength and expressiveness of her landscape paintings. Her work is currently on display at The 46th Annual Pastel Society of America’s prestigious show, Enduring Brilliance, (National Arts Club, Gramercy Park, NY.)  Her exhibited painting has received a major honor that will be revealed at the end of September.

Heidi grew up in Grosse Pointe Farms Michigan and Neuss (Rhineland) Germany. She attended Albion College and received a BFA (double major) in Fine Arts and English Literature and an MFA in English from Wayne State University.

Heidi had a successful career in advertising as a Senior Writer and Group Creative Director for Saatchi & Saatchi and Young & Rubicam Advertising. Her creative work was in all major periodicals like The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Vogue—as well as national and international radio and television markets. She created the first joint venture advertising campaign between Beijing and the United States.

Even in this early period, painting was on her mind and Heidi left the advertising world to rear her young family and pursue a full-time career as an artist.  She studied with a variety of well-known master pastelists to hone her skills.

In 2013 she received a National Parks Award by the Department of the Interior. In 2016 she had her first university exhibit at The University of Michigan. In 2017 Heidi had a show in conjunction with an Ansel Adams exhibit called, Journeys of a National Parks Artist. Her paintings and writings on painting can be found in art books, magazines and blogs. Today, Marshall paints primarily in northern Michigan, New Mexico and Arizona.

The gallery is open to the public, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 6 pm; Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 4 pm; and one hour prior to an Arts Center special event.
