LSSU Hosts First-Ever Renaissance Faire

LSSU hosted its first-ever Renaissance Faire on March 13. The event ran from 6-10pm and was open to public. Community members and students alike were invited to enjoy bard music, pasties, an open bar, jousting, sword fighting demonstrations, hair braiding, potions, dancing, and more in this brand new event.

While Renaissance faires are most often found in Michigan’s southern Lower Peninsula — places like Lansing, Flint, Grand Rapids, and Detroit — they’re a long journey for many LSSU students, especially those from the Upper Peninsula. Recognizing that traveling south for such events isn’t feasible for everyone, a group of students and staff came together to bring the Renaissance faire experience to the U.P. This year’s event marked the first of its kind, with the university hoping it will become an ongoing tradition.

LSSU’s second ‘annual’ Renaissance Faire is currently being planned for late September to early October. The university hopes to bring in more community vendors for a larger event which will take place both indoors and outdoors, weather permitting.
