Lake Superior State University To Offer Basic Manufacturing Continuing Education Course For Adults


Lake Superior State University will offer a basic manufacturing continuing education (non-credit) course for adults during the spring 2023 semester.

The course provides an introduction to fundamentals used in the manufacturing field, such as safety, tools, measurement, metals, cutting, speed and feed, manual mills and lathes, interpreting diagrams, and CNC (computer numerical control) equipment. The course will run Jan. 25-May 3, 2023, on Wednesdays at 5:30 PM-8:30 PM in The Center for Applied Science and Engineering Technology. Read More.

Lake Superior State University Alumni And Education Advocates Sheri Davie & Jon DeRoo Appointed To LSSU Board Of Trustees By Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer


Lake Superior State University alumni and education advocates Sheri Davie and Jon DeRoo have been appointed to the LSSU Board of Trustees by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Davie, of Marquette, is executive director of the Marquette Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and a longstanding previous Lake State employee. She earned an associate degree in liberal arts and a B.S. in individualized studies in political communication from LSSU in 2009. DeRoo, of Chesterfield, is financial secretary/treasurer for Detroit Plumbers Local 98. He earned a B.S. in history from Lake State in 2000. Both have served on area school boards for years.  U.S. Sen. Peters, Lake Superior State University, U.S. Coast Guard & Sault Ste. Marie Mayor Cut Ribbon For U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes Center Of Expertise: Center Of Expertise, Enacted Into Law By Peters-Led Efforts, Will Study Impacts Of Oil Spills In Freshwater Environments


U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) – along with Lake Superior State University President Dr. Rodney S. Hanley, U.S. Coast Guard Assistant Commandant for Response Policy Rear Admiral Jo-Ann Burdian, and Sault Ste. Marie Mayor Don Gerrie – participated in the official ribbon-cutting ceremony of the U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes Center of Expertise at Lake Superior State University’s Center for Freshwater Research and Education on Aug. 24, 2022. Peters delivered remarks applauding the Coast Guard’s selection of Michigan to be home to the center and highlighting the critical role it will play in protecting the Great Lakes for future generations. Following the speaking program and ribbon-cutting ceremony, Peters toured the facility with Director of the Center for Freshwater Research and Education Dr. Ashley Moerke and U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Kit Pace.
