A Scholarship and Golf Tournament Established to Honor the Legacy of Steven Glezen ‘86

A community of family, friends, and colleagues have come together to establish and grow a scholarship endowment in the memory of Steven Glezen, a Lake Superior State University alumnus and community leader. The Steven Glezen Memorial Endowment will benefit eligible LSSU students who are majoring in any Lukenda School of Business program entering their junior year.

With an initial lead gift through the generosity of Old Mission Bank located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, family and friends established the named endowment to honor Glezen, a 1986 LSSU graduate with a degree in Mathematics. He began a career in banking immediately following graduation, working in Detroit and surrounding suburbs for National City Bank. Steve grew fond of the Eastern Upper Peninsula during his time at LSSU and it wasn’t long before he transferred to the EUP Branch. In 2000, Steve was sought after by the founders of Old Mission Bank and was one of the inaugural hires when the bank opened its doors later that year. He was a mentor to co-workers for his knowledge and compassion and played a key leadership role in assisting customers to attain their financial goals through his lending acumen and maintaining a commitment to what was best for his customers.

“Old Mission Bank’s commitment to endow the Steve Glezen Memorial Scholarship is our gift to recognize Steve’s everlasting impact and commitment to not only our community, but also to Lake Superior State University and his contribution to the success of Old Mission Bank,” stated Gary Sharp, President and CEO. “The attributes of the scholarship recipients and their future success will allow Steve’s legacy to live on.”

On July 8, 2022 a full course of golfers (144 players) and over 25 golf sponsors took part in the 1st annual golf scramble fundraiser at Wild Bluff Golf Course in Brimley, Michigan, raising over $18,000 to further benefit future scholarship recipients. “We are so happy with the overwhelming support of the first golf scramble to raise funds for the Steve Glezen Memorial Endowment,” stated Steve’s wife, Gail. “To know Steve’s name will live on and that this endowment will help many young college students fulfill their educational dreams is something our family is extremely proud of.”

The 2nd Annual Steve Glezen Memorial Scholarship Golf Scramble is scheduled for July 7, 2023 at the Wild Bluff Golf Course, Brimley, Michigan.

Additional contributions may be forwarded to the LSSU Office of Advancement, 650 W. Easterday Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 or online at advancement.lssu.edu/give-today, or call 906-635-2665.
