2022 Fund for LSSU Recipients

The Fund for LSSU uses annual gifts to LSSU to address the university’s areas of greatest need and opportunity. The annual fund campaign  allows donors to make a difference at LSSU. Gifts to the Fund for LSSU help underwrite projects that support or enhance education and the student experience.

Through a grant process, students and full-time faculty and staff can apply to use funds from the Fund for LSSU for projects that support or enhance student education and the student experience at LSSU. The projects must fall under one of the four pillars: philanthropy, infrastructure, enrollment, and student professional development.

Below are just a few of the 2022 recipients.

Erica Newland – Grant and Research Module Implementation

The Office of Sponsored Programs’ Banner Grant and Research Module Implementation project will consult with Strata Information Group to develop a comprehensive grant management system for LSSU. The Office of Sponsored Programs coordinates all external funding tasks including sponsor source research, grant proposal preparation, submission, reporting, compliance, management, and more. Implementing the Banner platform function for grant management will address the critical need to fully support grant management requirements, which include the ability to produce timely and accurate reports, effectively manage grant budgets, and remain compliant with sponsor requirements. This project will lay the foundation for an increasingly active and successful external funding strategy.

Edoardo Sarda – Stem Student Development

Stem Student Development through participation at the 2022 Maritime RobotX Challenge. LSSU students asked for funding to develop technology and to cover travel expenses to compete in the 2022 Maritime RobotX Challenge in Sydney, Australia on November 17, 2022. In collaboration with students from the University of Bolzano (Italy), students at LSSU have been developing instrumentation, hardware, and software to prepare an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) for the competition. The Maritime RobotX Challenge is a game changing series of high-profile USV competitions, focused on autonomy, that are meant to inspire students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and careers.

Nancy Neve – Online Academic Catalog

The academic catalog is a crucial source of information for prospective students, enrolled students, staff, and advising staff. The upgrades will provide expected interface tools such as a search option, a page print option, a PDF download option, or interface flexibility adjusting for diverse devices. Students, faculty, and staff need access to a high-functioning reliable catalog to access accurate information as they make decisions or seek out information related to programs, fulfilling degree completion requirements, course selections, policies and procedures, financing, and more. The Registrar’s Office is purchasing a high-functioning Academic Catalog platform with a user-friendly interface and full range of features to make information more conveniently and accurately available to LSSU’s prospective students, current students, faculty, and staff.

Marc Boucher – Synchronous Distance Learning Supplement to USDA Grant

Supporting the synchronous learning technology that is being implemented through the USDA Distance Learning grant. The Library and Academic Services department will be able to equip several synchronous learning rooms with much needed audio capability and equipment storage capacity. This will increase student success by providing an organized physical classroom space and improved audio connectivity in our enhanced synchronous learning classrooms.
