Robinson’s Remember Lake State in their Estate Plan

Dr. Tom Robinson is a very familiar face in and around the Sault Ste. Marie area, as well as on the campus of Lake Superior State University. A Sault native, Dr. Robinson was a practicing orthodontist in the Sault from 1966 until his retirement in 2017. Tom has served on the LSSU Foundation Board of Directors since its founding in 1985, and he and his wife, Harriette, are ardent advocates of the University.

“My Dad taught me the importance of perseverance,” says Dr. Robinson. “Growing up, he did not have much except his determination and work ethic. My father worked his way through dental school and returned to the Soo to begin his career during the Great Depression. His perseverance paved the way for four generations of dentists and we feel very fortunate to honor his memory and be able to give back to the community where it all started. LSSU is an important part of our community and there are kids, who like my father, do not have much more than perseverance to start with. We want to help them through our scholarship to make their dreams come true too.”

As longtime supporters of Lake Superior State University, the Robinsons have made a point to remember LSSU in their estate plan – thus continuing their philanthropic efforts and impact at the University and in the community far into the future. The gift was established through an estate trust and will help support students with the Thomas and Harriette Robinson Scholarship, which will benefit a student enrolled in a pre-dentistry or pre-professional health program. Planned giving is a unique way to make an impactful difference to the students of Lake Superior State through beneficiary designations in trusts, wills, insurance policies, IRAs or retirement plans.
