Chan and Marjorie Huff

Long-Time Sault Area Residents and Education Advocates, Chan and Marjorie Huff Create Their Gift Legacy at LSSU

A new scholarship is being offered to Michigan Eastern Upper Peninsula students thanks to the generosity of Sault Ste. Marie residents Chan and Marjorie Huff.  The Huffs have established the Chan and Marjorie Huff Scholarship, an endowed scholarship to benefit LSSU students majoring in Business Management, Business Marketing, Finance & Economics, Teacher Education or Criminal Justice.

Chan Huff graduated from LSSU in 1981 with a degree in Business Education and earned his MBA in 1983. Marjorie graduated in 1970 from Michigan State University with a degree in Teacher Education and taught in the Sault Area Public Elementary Schools for over 38 years. The Huffs believe in the importance of a college education and want to provide this life changing opportunity of financial support so that students may focus on their chosen field of study and career path.  They have witnessed first-hand the evolution and successes of Lake Superior State University and believe it is a wonderful and important place in the Eastern Upper Peninsula community.  Marjorie noted, “We have so many great memories of this special University.”

“We are very grateful to the Huffs for their generosity in establishing this scholarship endowment,” commented Vice President of Advancement, Scott Smith. “Giving back to a place that holds so many great memories is a wonderful legacy for the Huffs. Many deserving students will benefit from their kindness for generations to come.”

Candidates for the scholarship must be a graduate of a Michigan Eastern Upper Peninsula High School who has earned at least 26 LSSU credits, possess a minimum 2.75 GPA, and majoring in Business Management, Business Marketing, Finance & Economics, Teacher Education or Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement.  The first recipient of the Chan and Marjorie Huff Scholarship is awarded to teacher education major, Brenna Pavey, a junior student from Newberry, Michigan. The Huffs are delighted to know that the first recipient of their endowment will benefit someone in the teaching profession following Marjorie’s long-time career in education.
