A Busy Laker Summer Header

Hello fellow Lakers!

I hope that this summer is treating everyone well! It has been a busy summer for myself and my family. Included in our summer fun have been several Laker events that have allowed me to interact with Laker alumni, students and faculty. Back in May, I had the honor of helping hand out Alumni Association pins to all of our 2022-23 graduates as they received their diplomas. It was so much fun to see the joy on their faces as they celebrated their hard work and accomplishments. Congratulations to all the new graduates and welcome to the LSSU alumni family! We hope that you will consider joining the Alumni Association and remain involved in our family for years to come. In addition to the current graduates, I was also privileged to assist in welcoming our Golden Grads back to campus again this year. Our Golden Grads are any LSSU, LSSC or Soo Tech alumni who graduated fifty or more years ago. It was my second year assisting with this and I have enjoyed the opportunity to meet these wonderful people and hear their stories about their time on campus. I love seeing people who have so much love for their alma mater!

In July, my husband and I were excited to attend the Laker gathering at the Detroit Tigers game at Comerica Park in Detroit. It was great to see so many Laker fans and cheer on the Tigers. Unfortunately, the game had a significant rain delay, but it made for more memories as everyone was huddled on the concourse together attempting to avoid the storm. In the end, the Tigers lost the game, but it was still a fun experience nonetheless. I look forward to attending more Laker Alumni gatherings in the future and hope that you all will consider joining us. The current list of Alumni events can be found at https://alumni.lssu.edu/alumni-events/

Finally, earlier in August I had the opportunity to volunteer for the Lake State Classic golf tournament held at Wild Bluff Golf Course in Brimley, Michigan. I served as a hole-in-one witness for the day, and although nobody was able to successfully make the shot, I had a lovely day visiting with all of the alumni and friends of Lake State who were able to attend the event. My favorite part of the day was being able to catch up with a couple of my classmates from my years at Lake State. We had such beautiful weather and it was perfect for our sold out event!

Looking forward to this fall, the dates for Great Lake State Weekend have officially been announced! I hope that you all are able to join us on the weekend of October 13th and 14th as we watch the Lakers take on Alaska-Anchorage. In addition, your Lake State Alumni Association will be hosting a pre-game tailgate on Saturday, October 14th which will have plenty of fun events for the whole family! Keep an eye on the alumni website for a full list of events for the weekend. I hope to see everyone there!

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful summer!
