Lake Superior State University is proud to celebrate the success of Mission Design & Automation, a company with strong Laker ties, recently named a 2025 USA TODAY Top Workplace. This national recognition is based entirely on feedback from employees, highlighting organizations that foster exceptional workplace cultures centered on alignment, execution, and connection.Scot Lindemann '89

Mission Design & Automation, located in Holland, Michigan, is led by CEO Scot Lindemann—an LSSU graduate who earned his BS degree in Automated Systems Engineering Technology in 1989. Lindemann also served on LSSU’s Board of Trustees from 2008 through 2016, including time as chair of the board.

At Mission Design & Automation, the team designs, builds, and integrates custom intelligent automation solutions for manufacturers. Serving a wide range of industries—including defense, medical device, food & beverage, transportation and automotive, consumer goods, and more—Mission helps clients enhance efficiency through innovative, tailored systems. This commitment to smart automation and continuous improvement has established Mission as a trusted partner in manufacturing innovation.

Under Lindemann’s leadership, Mission has not only built a reputation as an industry leader, but has also become a valued partner of LSSU’s School of Engineering & Technology. The partnership includes placement of interns and graduates, development of robotics systems for LSSU’s robotics lab, equipment donations, support for engineering program advancement, and collaborative senior design projects.

Several top engineers and team members at Mission are also LSSU alumni, further solidifying the company’s connection to the university and its mission of preparing students for successful careers in technology and automation.

Reflecting on the recent recognition, Lindemann shared, “Our success starts with our people. We’ve worked hard to build a culture where employees feel valued, supported, and excited to come to work every day.

Lindemann added, “Being named a USA TODAY Top Workplace means a lot because it comes directly from our team’s feedback. It reinforces that we’re creating an environment where people can grow, collaborate, and create meaningful solutions. We’re proud of this recognition and even more proud of the team that makes Mission what it is.

LSSU congratulates Scot Lindemann and the entire Mission Design & Automation team on this well-earned honor. It’s a powerful reminder of the impact Laker alumni are making across the country—and a proud moment for the LSSU engineering community.
