Barry Anderson ’79, Findlay, Ohio, is the president of Austin Powder Great Lakes LLC.
Brian Kasubeck, ’76, Lake Dalrymple, Ont., is the general manager at Beaverton Golf & Country Club.
Paul Kintziger ’75, South Milwaukee, Wis., received the Outstanding Wastewater Operator Award for the southeast district of Wisconsin from the Wisconsin Wastewater Operators Association.
William Nelson ’75, Lansing, retired after 37 years from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality as the senior chemist in the Inorganic Contaminants Unit of the laboratory section. William plans on spending his retirement playing his guitar and still remaining active in environmental issues across Michigan.
Mark Burch ’86, Chugiak, Alaska, is a wildlife biologist for the State of Alaska, Division of Wildlife Conservation. His wife, Karen (Krolczyk) ’87, is a medical technologist at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Monica Healy ’81, Houghton, retired from her position at Hancock Public Schools.
Cheryl (Kujawa) McCloud ’85, Monon, Ind., is the manufacturing engineering manager for Regal Beloit America, Inc. in Monticello, Ind. Previously, she was the senior processing engineer for Emerson Power Transmission.
Linda (Jones) Moline ’81, Cheboygan, started a new position as an agent for Encore Financial Group in 2014. Her concentration is on life, health, disability and long term care insurances, fixed annuities, and finding ways to fund them. Previously she worked for Walter & May Reuther UAW Family Education Center as the director of guest services, from which she retired in April 2011 after 32 years of service.
Jeff Payne ’88, Traverse City, is the managing editor for The Macomb Daily and the Daily Tribune in Royal Oak. He has been in the newspaper business for 26 years. Payne also volunteers as a coach for the boys cross country team at Anchor Bay High School. He ran collegiately at LSSU and at Michigan State University.
Aaron Payment EdD ’87, Sault Ste. Marie, was elected first vice president of the National Congress of American Indians last October at the NCAI’s 74th annual convention in Milwaukee, Wis. Payment served previously as midwest area vice president and as secretary for NCAI. He has testified more than 15 times in Congress and has been invited to the White House under both Republican and Democratic administrations. Payment currently serves as chairperson of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
David Rintoul ’83, Spring, Texas, is president and chief executive officer for Graftech International. Previously, Rintoul was the senior vice president for tubular business for U.S. Steel.
Irene (Colson) Coons PhD, RN, CNE ’93, Las Vegas, Nev., was promoted to director of nursing at the College of Southern Nevada in July 2017. Currently, Dr. Coons is working to establish a RN to BSN program at the college. Ruth Pike, Mae Markstrom, Carol Campagna, and Carole Connaughton were incredible role models for Irene and imparted in her a lifelong desire to work in nursing education.
Mark Engels ’93, Fond du Lac, Wis., has released his debut novel, “Always Gray in Winter,” which is a paranormal sci-fi thriller.
Bryan Fuss ’98,Minneapolis, Minn., has been named a scout in Minnesota for the Camrose Kodiaks hockey team.
Tan-A (Engebretsen) Hoffman ’99, Sault Ste. Marie, earned her certification for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. This certification is an honor given to those who uphold the highest standards of teaching.
Jeannette (Haigh) Holland ’91, Weidman, is the owner of Creatively! Glass & more in Mt. Pleasant.
Peter Johnson ’95, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., is the new fire chief for Sault Ste. Marie. He comes to the position with 23 years of fire service experience and had most recently served as deputy fire chief for the city.
Chad Kandow ’97, Portage, provides on-site management of construction projects and serves as the primary field contact for projects for Miller-Davis Company. Previously, he was a project manager and superintendent for Brayman Construction Corporation in Saxonburg, PA.
Robert Kells ’91, Parker, Colo., is the regional sales manager of ABB Optical Group. He returned home to Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. to give a talk about start-up economics in January 2018.
Aaron Kling ’96, Goulais River, Ont., is a dispatcher for LafargeHolcim in Windsor, Canada. Previously, he was the production supervisor for syncreon.
Darcy Long ’97, Amery, Wis., is happy to return to the U.P. as the new city manager of Gladstone.
Christopher Olson ‘90, Barbeau, was named executive director of the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation in October.
Peter Stauber ’90, Hermantown, Minn., is running for the 8th Congressional District seat. He is currently a St. Louis county commissioner and has held this position since 2013. Peter has also been a Duluth police officer for more than 23 year, holding the rank of lieutenant.
Troy Stong ’98, Saline, has accepted a position at Detroit Diesel as a senior software engineer. Previously, he was a computer programmer at Creative Solutions Inc.
Brian Wilson ’97, St. Charles, Ill., is a criminal defense attorney for the Winnebago Public Defender’s Office in Rockford, Illinois handling felony cases. Brian is also a decorated combat war veteran who fought in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He became a published author in the fall of 2016 when his 38-page Law Review article, ‘Respite for Tantalus’ was published in the Northern Illinois University Law Review Journal Volume Eight. Brian continues to donate his time in the community helping defend folks who cannot defend themselves. He has served well over 1500 pro bono hours. Brian’s wife Teri said: Brian is a true inspiration, proving it’s never too late to make your dreams come true! The foundation your institution gave him was solid and the launching pad Brian needed to build an amazing career and legacy of giving back.
Nicholas Wolfe ’99, Cedar Springs, is the new assistant coach for the men’s basketball program for Grace Bible College.
Patrick Bell ’04, Cheboygan, is the new director of group sales for Mackinaw City Chamber of Tourism.
Thomas Berriman ’04, Allegan, is the new principal of Alpena High School.
Jamil Czubenko ’06, Howell, was presented with a certificate recognizing the completion of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer program. This program is prestigious, and one of the highest honors and levels of certification available in the firefighting field. The program focuses on how the fire command officer exercises leadership in emergency situations. Jamil also holds a master’s degree in emergency management/homeland security from Eastern Michigan University.
Stephen Eles ’03, Houghton, had two national podium finishes in 2017, placing 2nd at the Duathlon Nation Championships in Bend, Oregon in June, and 5th at the Triathlon National Sprint Championships in Omaha, Neb. in August. Eles also placed 8th at the 2017 World Duathlon Championships in Penticton, British Columbia in August and 29th at the World Olympic Distance Triathlon Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands in September 2017.
Stephanie Kilgore Heath ’05, Ogden, Utah, recently received a doctorate of philosophy in the field of performance studies from Louisiana State University. Stephanie is a professor at Weber State University and lives in Ogden, Utah with her LSSU alumnus husband, David Heath ’06 and their two children. While at LSSU, Stephanie ran track & field and cross country from 2003-2005.
Erin (Gunden) ’04 & Andrew Heyboer ’03, Sault Ste. Marie, were featured on the hit TV show, Carnival Eats, which showcases unique culinary creations. Host Noah Cappe was seriously impressed by their Pizza Grilled Cheese sandwich and featured them in Season 5, Episode 7 “Grill Bill” – they are 6 minutes into the episode. Erin teaches math and literacy at JKL Bahweting School and Andrew teaches middle school and high school math at Pickford Public Schools. They started the G & H Concessions Food Truck with Erin’s brother Phillip Gunden in 2011 to spend time with family and travel over the summer. They showcased their culinary skills on campus recently during the Great Lake State Weekend 2017 Tailgate.
Shane Hill ’06, Sault Ste. Marie, and Marcel Coullard ’15, Brimley, both received the Sault Ste. Marie Police Departments Life-Saving Commendation for their efforts in saving two teenagers from a burning home.
Joshua MacDonald ’06, Sault Ste. Marie,is a financial advisor with Edward Jones. His wife Ashley (DeMaestri) MacDonald ’08 is an accountant at Lake Superior State University. They have two children, Morgan – 4 and Dylan – 1.
Amanda (Elliott) Matheson ’04, Sault Ste. Marie, has been named chief financial officer for Ann Arbor Public Schools.
Aaron Mize ’02, Alexandria, Va., has been named national chief of hunting and fishing for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Scott Murray ’02, Sudbury, Ont.,has been named goaltending coach for the Washington Capitals.
Greg Osborn ’03, Reminderville, Ohio, has accepted a position as an adult services librarian at the University Heights Library, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Kat (Philips) Paye ’04, Traverse City, is the executive director of the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City. Previously, she was the operations director for the festival.
Brandon Pender ’01, Clarkston, has been promoted to the director of the external business office and business development at Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) in Warren, MI. Previously, he held the position of assistant chief of staff for logistics for TARDEC.
Anna (Kroll) Soik ‘05, Posen, was appointed and named clerk/treasurer and financial director for the City of Alpena. Anna is also employed at Alpena Community College as an assistant controller. Previously, she was employed at Besser Company and Alpena Regional Medical Center.
Rob Trembinski ’04, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., was named Canadian broker of the year by EXIT Realty Corp. International during their annual convention in Texas.
Adam Truckey ’06, Suttons Bay, created a decal to help keep Leelanau beaches clean.
John Wavrychuk ’05, Yarmouth, N.S., is a constable in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Benjamin Charbonneau ’13, Sudbury, Ont., has accepted a new position as head of sales for CMC Markets in Australia. Previously, he was the bilingual senior head of sales for CMC Markets Canada.
Maxwell Cleary ’13, Appleton, Wis., wrote an original play, “Remember Me,” that was produced in Toledo. After graduating Lake State with a creative writing degree, Maxwell went on to the University of Toledo to study social work.
Andrew Fisher ’13, Ortonville, is the project manager, builder, and project supervisor for Thomas Allan Doss Builders where he is in charge of maintaining the projects and job sites, and customer relations. Previously, he was a teacher aid and substitute teacher for Houghton Lake Community Schools.
Noel (Granger) Gee ’13, Belleville, is a usability analyst for ForeSee Results in Ann Arbor. Previously at ForeSee, she held the position of marketing representative.
Aimee Grant ’14, Saint Claire Shores, has accepted a job at Macomb County Circuit Court in the Juvenile Division. She is also head coach for the girls swim team at Lakeview.
Scott Hazewinkel ’17, Cedar Springs, and Anthony Laaksonen ’17, Sault Ste. Marie, were sworn in as Sault Ste. Marie City police officers in August, 2017.

Susan Kirkman ’15, Sault Ste. Marie, is the new Mackinac County 4H program coordinator for the Michigan State University Extension.
Zachary Loesch ’16, White Bear Lake, Minn., is employed at Aerotek in the engineering recruiting division.
Ellen Loper ’17, Ludington, is lead teacher at Diman Wolf Early Childhood Center in Hart.
Kimberlee (Booms) McClure ’11, Midland, graduated with her MSN-Informatics from Walden University in February. She is a telehealth analyst RN for MidMichigan Health System. Her husband, Greg McClure ’10, is working for Davey Resource Company.
Stephanie Peck ’14, Albany, Ga., is a deployment engineer for Amazon Robotics. She travels to Amazon fulfillment centers all around the world managing the installation and startup of robotic systems. In between her travels she supports sites remotely, especially monitoring any issues during the busy holiday gift buying season. Stephanie is pictured here, enjoying a little free time at the Vatican while working in Rome.

Patti Wenglikowski ’10, Sault Ste. Marie, has received the Technician of the Quarter Award for outstanding services to EUP Schools. Patti is an application/network systems technician for the EUPISD. She is instrumental in leading efforts to improve communication systems design and technical support.
Justin Wood ‘13, Moncks Corner, S.C., has joined Carolina One Real Estate as an agent based in the Crowfield Boulevard office in Goose Creek near Charleston. He is a former firefighter with the City of Goose Creek.
