Laker Hockey Legends Reunite, Inspire Current Team during GLSW

At Great Lake State Weekend (GLSW), we welcomed back Laker legends Doug Weight ’91, Mark Vermette ’88, Anthony Palumbo ’89 and Kord Cernich ’90, who visited the team prior to morning warm-ups.  They also toured the newly renovated locker room and Doug Weight Performance Center.

Doug Weight established the Doug Weight Hockey Endowment in 2002 to support Laker hockey operations, including the new weight room.  His endowment represented the first major financial contribution by a former Laker Hockey player in the university’s history, as he wanted to benefit the growth and success of the program while inspiring others to contribute as well.  Both of these projects were almost entirely funded through the generosity of our hockey alumni.

Our former Lakers got to see first hand how the program is elevating its facilities to meet the needs of today’s players in the highly competitive field of D1 collegiate hockey.
