The Bud and Mary Mansfield Parent(s) of the Year Award is presented annually by the Alumni Association during Great Lake State Weekend. LSSU students are invited to submit nominations, and a committee reviews each submission to select the recipients.  This year’s Mansfield Parents of the Year Award was presented to Samantha and Steven Hect, nominated by their daughter Brooklyn Abbott, a freshman majoring in psychology.  Brooklyn nominated her parents because of, “the sacrifices they made to assure my safety, education and success.”  Brooklyn went on to say, “I have grown into a successful human, and with them along my side I am positive I will continue to grow. This is why I believe that my parents, Samantha and Steve, should be nominated for the 2023 Parents of the Year.”

Lake Superior State University Alumni and Friends gathered at the Jolly Pumpkin in East Lansing for a pre-game social before the Lakers vs. Spartans game at Munn Ice Arena on Saturday, October 6th.
