Lake Superior State University (LSSU) is proud to announce its outstanding performance in the prestigious 2024 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings for Regional Colleges in the U.S. They earned top honors by being recognized as the #1 Top Public School in the Regional Colleges Midwest category, solidifying their position as a leading institution of higher education. The U.S. News and World Report rankings, released on September 18, 2023, are based upon factors such as graduation and retention rates, social mobility, reputation, faculty resources, financial resources per student, and graduate indebtedness. The U.S. is divided into four regions and the Midwest region includes 12 states. To be classified as a regional college among the rankings, the college or university must focus on undergraduate education and award fewer than half of the degrees in liberal arts disciplines.
Interim President Lynn Gillette expressed his delight at this remarkable achievement, saying, “This is who we are. We provide an extraordinary education that prepares our students for a job in their field and then to be leaders in their field. Lake Superior State University continues to uphold its mission of providing accessible, high-quality education to our students. This ranking reflects our commitment to excellence in teaching and learning and preparing our students for high-paying careers.”
Many of the categories considered in the rankings are part of LSSU’s Strategic Plan. In particular, LSSU has goals related to graduation and retention rates, social mobility, and quality teaching. LSSU’s low faculty-to-student ratio allows for exceptional education and mentoring.
