Lakers Face First Setback of the Season at D1 EMU


The Eagles jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, but the Lakers got back within two with a pair of baskets from Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.). Eastern Michigan would continue to apply pressure, but Blake Cassidy (Pellston, Mich.) responded hitting three-straight shots from beyond the arc to put the Lakers in front by one. EMU pushed ahead again, but LSSU once again answered with a dunk from Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) followed by a three ball from Xander Okerlund (Empire, Mich.) to tie up the game at 29-29 going into the halftime break.  Read more ...

Westcott Named Co-HCA National Player of the Month


The two-time reigning CCHA Forward of the Month was able to take his game to yet another level in November, notching 14 points on the month, including a four-game point streak that saw him find the back of the net seven times with arguably his most notable goal of the month coming in overtime against Bowling Green on Nov. 18. In addition to his impressive scoring numbers, he would also finish the month winning his face-offs at a 67 percent rate and finish the month with a +2 +/- rating.

Velasque, Kalinowski, and McDaniel Receive All-GLIAC Recognition


SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Mariana Velasque (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Emily Kalinowski (South Lyon, Mich.), and Emilee McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.) have each received All-GLIAC volleyball honors with Velasque named to the All-GLIAC First Team, Kalinowski named to the All-GLIAC Second Team, and McDaniel receiving All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors, as announced by the league office on Friday.

Velasque led the GLIAC in kills during the regular season with 393 before finishing the season with 403 after the GLIAC quarterfinal. Her 403 kills rank as the fifth most in a single season in program history. Velasque also contributed 56 total blocks, 125 digs, and 18 service aces this season. She was also named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after coming away with over 60 kills at the 2023 Midwest Regional Crossover.Read more ...

Laker Cross Country Competes at GLIAC Championships


Men

Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) led the way for the Lakers in the men's 8k with a personal best time of 26:26.20. His brother Aaron Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) was the next to finish for the Lakers, narrowly beating teammate Reese Camp (Highland, Mich.) by seven seconds with a time of 27:19.70 with both also recording new personal records in the process. Senior Roy Bowman (Jerome, Mich.) was the next to finish with a time of 28:15.10, and he was followed by Ryan O'Neill (Perry, Mich.) who crossed the finish line at the 28:36.9 mark. True freshman Sam Markle (Berrien Springs, Mich.) rounded out the lineup for the men's team with a final time of 29:18.10.  Read more ...

Laker Athletics Launches New Fundraising Initiative "Pledge Per" in Support of Laker Club and LSSU Club Sports


Lake Superior State University (LSSU) Athletics and the LSSU Foundation are excited to partner with CUE to launch "Pledge Per" on campus this fall as an additional way to support LSSU Laker Club and LSSU Club Sports. In its first season on campus, "Pledge Per" is a new fundraising program that will help support Men's D1 Hockey, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, and both Men's and Women's ACHA hockey at LSSU.  Read more ...
