A Word from LSSU President Rod Hanley

Prex HanleyDear LSSU Alums:

I find it hard to believe that the fall 2019 semester is quickly approaching. It was not that long ago, I was shaking the hands of our 2019 Lake State graduates as they walked across the stage in the Taffy Abel Arena.

In a few short weeks, we will be welcoming new and returning students to campus. My family and I look forward to the hustle and bustle of Laker Week. Helping students move in and sitting with them at the campus BBQ are just some of the many traditions we enjoy this time of year.

Several campus improvement projects have taken place during the course of these warmer months, including installation of energy efficient lighting, heating and cooling upgrades and new security system controls. These facility improvement measures are a part of our commitment to deliver a more comfortable, safe and sustainable campus to all of our students.

We remain focused on fundraising and planning for the Richard and Theresa Barch Center for Freshwater Research and Education. We cannot thank our donors enough for their generosity and integral role they play in bringing this world-class facility to fruition for our students. It is not only appreciated, but also inspirational.

In March 2019, Lake Superior State University formed the LSSU Campus Housing Corporation, a supporting organization of the University. The LSSU CHC will oversee the planning, development and management of the P3 Housing Project – which is designed to update existing and build new campus housing facilities. We are excited to offer these new accommodations for students, faculty and staff to enjoy.

The LSSU senior leadership team are ramping up new efforts to provide the most impactful educational experience for our students. LSSU is committed to the development and adherence to an institutional strategic plan that expresses the aspirational strategic goals of the University.

This fall also brings our Great Lake State Weekend, October 11-12. I hope to see you back on campus to reunite with college friends or catch a hockey homecoming game. There will be activities for everyone to enjoy.

We appreciate your support of Lake Superior State University. We look forward to another successful year!

GO LAKERS!

Dr. Rodney S. Hanley
President
