Volleyball

Laker Men's Cross Country Slated 9th in GLIAC Preseason Poll


The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's cross country program has been projected to finish ninth (18 pts) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

The Lakers return a core group of six seniors in Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.), Aaron Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.), Roy Bowman (Jerome, Mich.), Reese Camp (Highland, Mich.), Skylar Williams (Battle Creek, Mich.), and Riley Sponseller (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) with the Nachazel brothers having been the top two runners for the program a year ago.

LSSU also boasts a talented group of underclassmen, highlighted by sophomore Sam Markle (Berrien Springs, Mich.) who saw significant time on the course last season. In addition, the Lakers have added seven first-year athletes into the program for this upcoming season.

The Lakers open their season on Friday, Sept. 13 when they travel to Detroit for the Warrior Challenge at Willow Metropark.  


Women's Basketball

Laker Women's Cross Country Slated 10th in GLIAC Preseason Poll


The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's cross country program has been projected to finish tenth (19 pts) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

The Lakers will rely on their core of experienced seniors to lead the way, headlined by last season's top runner for LSSU, Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.). Alongside Kapushinski, fellow seniors, Katelyn Moore (Grayling, Mich.), Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), Gwen Phillips (Cadillac, Mich.), and Olivia Stevens (Grand Haven, Mich.) will be expected to continue to lead a talented batch of eight underclassmen, including four first-year freshmen as well as sophomores Keira Lamming (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.), Sarah McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.), Olivia Peter (Cass City, Mich.), and Nora Smoes (Reed City, Mich.).

The Lakers open the 2024 campaign on Friday, Sept. 13 when they travel to Detroit for the Warrior Challenge at Willow Metropark.

Laker Volleyball Set to Open 2024 Season


The Lake Superior State (LSSU) Lakers who were projected to finish 9th in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) (27 pts), as voted on by the league's head coaches, are set to embark on their 2024 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 5 for their opening game at the Steel City Showcase at Colorado State-Pueblo prior to their home-opener against Saginaw Valley State on Sept. 19.

"We are really excited," said LSSU Head Coach Zac Rambo. "We have a lot of returners coming back. We did lose a lot of key pieces from last year, but our big offensive weapon, Mariana Velasque (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is back. We have two setters we are excited about that have been waiting, and we brought in some really big pieces that will allow us to score on both pins and in the middle." Read More
