Francis Wood Scholarship

The Francis Wood First-Generation Scholarship, First Announced in Early May, is now a done deal!

On June 8, Sharla ’06 (front row left) and Sharmay ’07 Wood (front row center), director of campus life and Laker success, signed the paperwork with LSSU President Dr. Rodney S. Hanley (front row right)! This $1,200 scholarship was created in memory of Woods’s father to honor his love for LSSU and his dedication to his children. Junior and senior first-generation students who live on campus are encouraged to apply for this scholarship on Scholarship Universe. Another First For The Cannabis Center Of Excellence At Lake Superior State University: its First Student Scholarship

The groundbreaking Cannabis Center of Excellence at Lake Superior State University achieved another first recently. In 2019, it opened as the first cannabis chemistry program in the nation. And now, LSSU offers its first cannabis chemistry scholarship.

Hazel Park, Mich.-based Steadfast Labs, whose mission is to ensure access to safe cannabis medicine, has established an annual $1,200 scholarship for students pursuing a degree in cannabis chemistry at LSSU. Applicants also must be at least sophomores and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given to students who reside in Wayne and Oakland Counties, the service areas for the company. Lake Superior State University Names Veteran Fundraiser, Former LSSU Foundation Executive Director Scott Smith as Inaugural Vice President of Advancement

Lake Superior State University has named nationally recognized philanthropic strategist and former LSSU Foundation executive director Scott Smith as its inaugural vice president of advancement. Smith, with more than two decades of experience as a fundraiser in the higher education and not-for-profit sectors over a 35-year career, started at LSSU on March 15, 2021. He joins a university advancement team made up of Associate Vice President Tom Coates (’86), Director of Donor Relations Sharon Dorrity (’87), Director of Annual Fund and Athletic Development Andrew Rubinstein, and Development Operations Director Ryan Sigmon (’15). Cannabis Center Endowed Scholarship

Cannabis Center of Excellence at Lake Superior State University Moves Further into the Vanguard with Its First Endowed Scholarship

Trailblazing continues for the Cannabis Center of Excellence at Lake Superior State University. In 2019, the center opened as the first cannabis chemistry program in the nation.
In April 2021, the center announced its first cannabis chemistry scholarship, an annual $1,200 awarding. And now, the center provides more financial help for its students
through an endowed annual scholarship fund of $25,000 held in perpetuity that results in an additional $1,200 award each year for a deserving cannabis chemistry major. Both
$1,200 cannabis chemistry scholarships go into effect for the fall 2021 semester.  Read More

Sydney Zuke, pictured above, was one of the six recipients of the Fall 2020 Undergraduate Student Research Grants.
