Golden Grads Invited to Lead LSSU Grads at Commencement

The LSSU Alumni Association is inviting Golden Graduates to return to campus April 26-27 for induction into the Golden Graduate Society and to lead LSSU graduates in the Commencement processional.

Golden Grads smilingThe Golden Grad Society includes those who left campus at least fifty years ago, in 1969 or earlier. We define your ‘graduation’ year as the last year enrolled at the Soo Campus. Each year we add the next class to our roster, and each year you will be invited again to march.

Roger and Colleen with SeamoreIncluded in the invitation are alumni and former students who attended Lake Superior State University, Lake Superior State College, or the Soo Branch of the Michigan College of Mining and Technology during the year 1969 or earlier. We want you to march in Lake Superior State University’s 2019 Commencement ceremonies on April 27!

You and your guest are also invited to several events related to LSSU’s Commencement that weekend.

At 7:00 pm Golden Grads are invited to the Reunion Reception in the home of LSSU President Rod Hanley for hearty hors d’ oeuvres and beverages. Soo Tech medallions will be presented to each Golden Graduate in his or her inaugural year.

Saturday, Golden Grads will gather with current grads, faculty and trustees of the institution in the Cooper Gym, starting at 10:00 am. Coffee and pastries are served for all guests. Line-up begins at 10:45 am and the procession begins at 11:00am. Golden Grads lead the way into Abel Arena for Commencement ceremonies and are seated in the front row, with current graduates seated directly behind them.

We ask that you register no later than Friday, March 15, either by registering online, by emailing [email protected], or calling the Alumni office at 906-635-2844.

It is imperative that we know by March 15 who will need commencement regalia (cap & gown). Costs related to academic regalia will be borne by the Alumni Relations office.

We have a small block of rooms available at two local hotels for Friday and Saturday nights. See the website for details.

If you are unable to attend in person, please consider recording some of your memories for us for our Soo Tech Memory Book. We invite you to submit your memories or stories for our publication, begun in fall 1998 and added to each year. Click on the Memory Book Submission Form at the bottom of the web page.

We hope you will be able to join us April 26-27!
