30th Lake State Golf Classic – Comes to the Yoop!

LSCG logoSault Ste. Marie – 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the “The Classic” that has been staged over its history in Gaylord, Boyne Mountain, Frankenmuth and this year at the Eastern U.P.’s Wild Bluff Golf Course in Bay Mills, MI, about 20 miles west of LSSU’s campus.

The tourney has raised more than $500,000 in support of scholarships, Laker Club and the LSSU Foundation’s operations during its tenure.  The common denominator of all the events is generating vital support for LSSU Students in attaining their goals of an outstanding education.

The event takes on a new one-day format starting with a shot gun start on Friday, June 14th at 10 a.m. with some fun tweaks. Following the four-person scramble, the traditional Classic Bash will be held where this year’s inductee into the Classic Circle will be inducted. This year’s recipient(s) will join the likes of Gary McClellan, Gil Somes, The Walt North Family and Rick and Sue Fitzpatrick.  All honorees share the qualities of true Lakers: good character, citizenship, determination and the spirit of philanthropy while supporting and encouraging others to attend the Lake State Classic.

As in the past, golfers of all skill-sets are welcomed and those without a full foursome will be added to teams. Net proceeds will be earmarked to the Foundation Development Fund, Laker Club and attendees have the option to target support to a specific team, the Foundation or academic program.

This year, there is a special emphasis on attracting Laker Hockey alumni, staff and fans of the program to augment the annual and loyal supporters of the event.

Let’s hope it starts a tradition for Laker Hockey, other sports or alumni from our outstanding academic programs.  It’s all about having fun and sharing the pride of being a Laker.”

In keeping with tradition, there will also be a silent auction that will include Laker, Red Wing and other apparel along with other unique items that appeal to a broad base of Laker backers.

For more information on the Lake State Golf Classic, sponsorships, entering the event or to learn about the auction items contact Tom Coates, LSSU Foundation at (906)-635-6670 or [email protected].
