Lake Superior State University Unveils Landmark Letter Installations

Lake Superior State University has unveiled two new landmark letter installations designed to celebrate Laker pride, welcome visitors, and create memorable destinations for students, alumni, and the community.

Located at prominent campus locations on the main campus and at the Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE), the large-scale letter displays provide bold new fixtures that strengthen LSSU’s identity while creating recognizable spots for campus tours, student celebrations, athletic events, and alumni visits. Together, they offer visitors opportunities to experience and celebrate Lake State while enhancing the university’s visibility.

Some of the most meaningful learning and memories happen outside the classroom,” said Dr. David Travis, president of Lake Superior State University. “Campus should inspire Laker pride, connection, and a sense of belonging from the moment someone arrives. These new letters create spaces where future students picture themselves as Lakers, class photos are taken, alumni reconnect with their alma mater, and families capture moments that will last a lifetime. I hope they’ll become lasting symbols of the Laker experience.

The installations are among the most visible campus enhancement projects completed this summer and complement a variety of ongoing improvements across LSSU. Sidewalk repairs, roof maintenance, landscaping enhancements, and other infrastructure projects continue to improve the appearance, accessibility, and long-term stewardship of Lake Superior State University’s campus.

Together, these investments reflect LSSU’s commitment to providing an exceptional environment, fostering Laker pride, and creating a welcoming impression for everyone who visits.

As students return this fall, the new LSSU letter installations are expected to become iconic campus gathering spots and backdrops for photos, celebrations, and traditions for years to come.
