Culinary School Students

Bon Appetit in Les Cheneaux!

LSSU joined forces with the Les Cheneaux Culinary School (LCCS) in Hessel, Michigan earlier this year. LCCS started in 2014 and features a 5,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art kitchen. The on-site restaurant can accommodate eighty-plus guests, and is open mid-May through early September. The entire menu is drawn up and prepared fresh daily as part of the training. The school lives by an industry trend towards farm-to-table and sustainability that seeks locally-sourced food.

The certificate offers students a focused, one-year training and internship experience to learn the art of cooking under the auspices of master chefs. “The importance of programs like this culinary arts certificate cannot be overstated in the university’s strategic direction,” said LSSU President Rodney Hanley. “Adding technical and skills-based program options appeal to a wider student demographic range.”

Giving Tuesday

Support the bud mansfield student emergency fund this giving tuesday

Financial emergencies happen, and many times when it is least expected. The Bud Mansfield Student Emergency Fund was set up in 2001 to assist under-resourced students in times of need. Many times these funds can be the difference between staying enrolled, and leaving Lake Superior State University. This giving Tuesday, December 3, your gift can help ensure students do not have to be faced with that choice.

“The Bud Mansfield Student Emergency Fund is one reason LSSU has that personal touch! Having another tool in my box allows me the opportunity to change a student's life trajectory, and that is extraordinary. Life happens, and having the ability to help a student in a pinch is enhancing our social mobility, while meeting the needs of the student and our LSSU community.” - Katelynn Coon '10, Interim Director of Financial Aid.
