Martin (Beau)\u00a0Korson\u00a0Chippewa County Sunrise Rotary Club Award Created to Benefit Incoming Freshman<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

The LSSU Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Martin (Beau)\u00a0Korson\u00a0Chippewa County Sunrise Rotary Club Award.\u00a0\u00a0Beau\u2019s family and members of the Chippewa County Sunrise Rotary Club were present for the criteria signing with LSSU President Rodney S. Hanley and Sunrise Rotary Club President, Tracey Holt. The scholarship award will benefit an incoming freshman pursuing a degree in any course of study at LSSU.\u00a0\u00a0Beau was a 1998 LSSU Mechanical Engineering graduate, born and raised in Suttons Bay but found his place called home in Sault Ste. Marie. Following a courageous fight with cancer, Beau passed away in February 2019 at the age of 43. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved music, and enjoyed participating in local productions at the Soo Theater.\u00a0\u00a0He was passionate about investing in people and truly represents the mission of the Chippewa County Sunrise Rotary Club that supports local community initiatives.\u00a0\u00a0Contributions to this special award may be directed to\u00a0lssu.edu\/give<\/a>. Heidi Bailey Memorial Nursing Scholarship Created to Benefit Nursing Students with Interest and Compassion in Home Health and Hospice Care<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

The LSSU Foundation was honored to host the formal criteria signing of the Heidi Bailey Memorial Nursing Scholarship.\u00a0 The scholarship will benefit a junior or senior nursing student who demonstrates the interest and compassion in Home Health and Hospice care.\u00a0 Contributions to this special nursing scholarship may be directed<\/span> to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>lssu.edu\/give<\/a>. Please select \u201cOther Designation and note \u201cHeidi Bailey\u201d in the \u201cgift designation field\u201d. The first scholarship will be awarded for the 2022-2023 academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Members of the LSSU Nursing faculty, colleagues\/staff members of the Chippewa County Health Department, and three of Heidi Bailey\u2019s children were present for the criteria signing with LSSU President Rodney S. Hanley; Sandi King, LSSU Nursing faculty representative; and Karen Senkus, Chippewa County Health Department Health Officer<\/span><\/p>\n

Heidi Bailey was a 1984 graduate of Newberry High school who pursued her education and passion for nursing at LSSU earning a BSN in 1988. She began her nursing career at War Memorial Hospital and later worked at the Chippewa County Health Department dedicating over 27 years to Hospice and community home health care.\u00a0She was a dedicated mentor to LSSU nursing students to ensure they had a meaningful learning experience while pursuing their BSN degree.\u00a0She will be forever remembered\u00a0as one who contributed immensely to the practice of nursing in Sault Ste. Marie and throughout the Chippewa County community.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\n
