Lake Superior State University Board of Trustees Accepts Resignation of President Dr. Rodney S. Hanley<\/strong><\/p><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

The Board of Trustees of Lake Superior State University has accepted the resignation of Dr. Rodney S. Hanley as president of the institution. He had been in the role since July 2018.<\/p>\n

LSSU Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Lynn G. Gillette has been appointed interim president effective immediately. The board will begin a national search for the next president of LSSU imminently.<\/p>\n

Lake Superior State University Creates its First Endowed Faculty Position with $1 Million Gift<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

Lake Superior State University has created its first endowed faculty position through a $1 million gift.<\/p>\n

Dr. Marty Vanderploeg, CEO of Workiva, an Ames, Iowa-based provider of cloud-based and mobile-enabled platforms for enterprises, bestowed the seven-figure gift to establish the Martin Vanderploeg Endowed Assistant Director of Research at the Richard and Theresa Barch Center for Freshwater Research and Education (Barch CFRE), named after his father. Former LSSU President and First Lady Establish First LGBTQ+ Scholarship at LSSU<\/strong><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

Former Lake Superior State University President Dr. Rodney S. Hanley and his wife, Sara Gunhus-Hanley, have created a scholarship that will provide financial assistance to students who excel in their contributions to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied community (LGBTQ+) at LSSU.<\/p>\n

Known as the Rodney S. Hanley and Sara Gunhus-Hanley LGBTQ+ Endowed Scholarship, it will benefit a student who exemplifies leadership and service within the university LGBTQ+ community, study, and research vis-\u00e0-vis LGBTQ+ issues and a commitment to supporting the progress of LGBTQ+ civil rights movements.
