LSSU Engineering Alumni Receive Kudos<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
\n

Several LSSU engineering alumni recently attended a networking dinner that had a sports theme. Pictured here are, left to right: Scot Lindemann, CEO of BACA Systems and former LSSU Board of Trustee; Craig Salvalaggio, Vice President of Engineering at Applied Manufacturing Technology (AMT); LSSU Engineering Professor James Devaprasad; Russ Jones, Manager of New Market Development at FANUC; and Darryl Dinel, General Manager of DeShazo Automation. Shortly after the dinner, Mike Jacobs, the president of AMT sent a message to the CEO of Soft Robotics saying, in part: We have come to depend on recruiting from LSSU for excellent graduates. They have produced some real leaders in our industry, including Craig Salvalaggio, AMT\u2019s VP of Engineering. I would wager that more than half the companies in the RIA have multiple LSSU grads. RIA is the Robotics Industries Association, which has about 550 robotics companies and organizations in its membership.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

Saluja to get bronze likeness<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

HOLDING FOR THE BRONZE \u2013 Lake Superior State University Business Professor Madan Saluja holds still for three-dimensional scanning in LSSU\u2019s R.W. Considine Hall on Jan. 9. Students from Saluja\u2019s 50-year teaching career are commissioning a full-length bronze likeness of their former professor to grace a public area in Considine, which houses LSSU\u2019s Lukenda School of Business. Chris Rydin, left, and Tim Mackey work for Engineering and Manufacturing Services, a company that creates 3D printed forms for the auto industry and clients such as Disney. Alums are planning to unveil the bronze sculpture this April in conjunction with the annual Lukenda School of Business awards dinner. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

LSSU President Rod Hanley formally presents Michigan Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield with a Laker Hockey jersey to adorn the walls of his office in Lansing. Unveiling the jersey are Tom Coates, executive director - LSSU Foundation and Ann Parker, newly appointed Chair of the LSSU Board of Trustees. LSSU alumni gathered to present an oversized gavel for newly appointed Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield to assist him in presiding over our State's House. Left to right are Pat Gagiliardi \u201873, Mitch Irwin \u201874, Speaker Chatfield, Mike Sawruk \u201872, Gary McDowell \u201870 and Scott Shackleton \u201883. All but Sawruk have served the State of Michigan in political offices during their careers. Gary McDowell was recently appointed Director - Michigan's Department of Agriculture by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a position previously held by Mitch Irwin.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

LSSU Moves Forward with Public Private Partnership for Housing<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
\n

Lake Superior State University is moving forward with a public private partnership (P3) that would bring updated student residence halls to campus. Deals were signed selecting financial advisors and pre-development partners for the project. Consulting firm Reith Jones has studies the university\u2019s housing situation and has developed a housing master plan. The plan includes renovating existing dorm space and eventually, the construction of two new residence halls. \n\u201cIt\u2019s going to touch every single housing unit on campus, either through renovations, or we\u2019re going to raze one building and we\u2019re going to build two new buildings,\u201d said LSSU Vice President for Finance Morrie Walwoth. \nReports indicate that Osborn Hall, the female freshman residence hall, will be razed during the project.\nStay tuned for updates<\/a> on this exciting project that will totally revamp housing at LSSU!\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

Michigan U.S. Senator Gary Peters drops the ceremonial puck with oversight by LSSU President Rod Hanley between Michigan Tech's Jake Lucchini and LSSU's Gage Torrel to start the Saturday, February 16th tilt between the U.P. rivals. The Lakers prevailed 3-1. Senator Peters toured the Sector Sault Coast Guard Base, LSSU and other locations while in Sault Ste.
