Earlier this season, Cuglietta earned <em>Great Lakes Invitational MVP\u00a0<\/em>honors after scoring four goals, including the overtime-game winner against Michigan State, as Lake Superior State defeated Michigan State (4-3 OT) and Michigan Tech (6-3) to win the GLI for the first time in program history. Cuglietta has been named the\u00a0<em>WCHA Forward of the Week\u00a0<\/em>two times this season and the <em>NCAA Third Star of the Week<\/em> once. In his Laker career, Cuglietta has tallied 43 goals and 47 assists for 90 points. Nellis earned <em>WCHA Forward of the Week<\/em> and <em>NCAA Third Star of the Week<\/em> honors after garnering three goals and two assists in the Lakers\u2019 series sweep at Ferris State on Feb. 1-2. As of Feb. 12, Nellis led the Lakers and ranked third in the WCHA in shots on goal (101). He has tallied 39 goals and 48 assists for 87 points in his Laker career. Nellis leads all active Lakers in career assists and is second in goals and points.<\/p>\n<p>Award criteria includes candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award&#8217;s namesake, Hobey Baker. A legendary American hero, Baker was a World War I fighter pilot and was known as America&#8217;s greatest amateur athlete in his day, excelling at hockey and football at Princeton University. Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced from a field of three Hobey Hat Trick finalists on Friday, April 12, 2019 during the NCAA Frozen Four Championship in Buffalo, New York.
