For every New Year's Day since 1976, the University has issued an annual\n\"List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use, or General\nUselessness.\" Between now and December 5, LSSU will accept nominations sent from all over\nthe world, covering all manner of word or phraseology, which some consider being worthy of\nexile. \"LSSU's word banishment tradition is now in its fifth decade,\u201d\u00a0stated Dr. Rodney Hanley,\nLSSU President. \u201cFor every new year since 1976, LSSU has received tens of thousands of\nnominations for the list, which now includes more than 1,000 entries. We are excited to see this\nyear's entries.\" Hundreds of words from the fields of academia, advertising, business, the\nmilitary, sports, and politics have found their way onto the banishment list. The 2019 list will be\nreleased on January 1, in time to welcome the New Year. The Management Concepts and Applications class hosted the event, where high school students must evaluate a real-life business case and present their solutions to a panel of judges.  Many local business owners and representatives gave of their time to serve as judges.  This year\u2019s judges panel was made up of: Doug Laprade (owner: Laprade Insurance Agency\/Meemic Insurance), Ron Kurnik (owner: Superior Coffee Roasting Co.), Danna Sanderson (owner: The Foundry), Amy Azevedo (owner: Superior Styling Salon), Don Wilson (owner: Don Wilson Insurance), James Parker (Management: Central Savings Bank). The final panel consisted of Lake State Faculty: Mindy McCready (Professor; Lukenda School of Business), Valerie Philips (Professor, Lukenda School of Business), Jordan VanLoo (Marketing Department, recent Lukenda School of Business graduate) and Sharmay Wood (Student life). The MRA oversees the development of the burgeoning cannabis industry in Michigan. Parker Dagenais, a junior kinesiology student concentrating in sports and fitness management,\u00a0 passed away at the scene. He was from Fenton, MI. \u201cOur hearts go out to the members of Parker\u2019s family and friends,\u201d said LSSU President, Dr. Rodney Hanley. \u201cAs our campus community mourns this great loss, I ask all who knew him to remember your time and experiences with him, and rely on each other for support in this moment of grief.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parker was a student assistant coach for Women\u2019s Basketball, and well-known around campus for his contagious energy and deep friendships.\u201cParker was a true blessing to our program and my life. He brought a joyful heart with him every day and his positive attitude was contagious,\u201d said Women\u2019s Basketball Head Coach, Brandon Lokken. \u201cParker loved our basketball program and we all loved him. We were so grateful to have him as a student assistant coach. In addition to the famed multiphonic singers of Tibet\u2019s Drepung Loseling Monastery performing, the Tibetan Monks also created a Mandala Sand Painting, hosted a lecture series and family-friendly performances for local area schools.
