Meet Chester the skeleton<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
\n

Meet Chester. He is approximately 100 years old. From his skeleton we can gather that he was very ill for much of his life and likely had a difficult death. But he or his family made the decision to donate his body \"Chester\"to science. In doing so, he has helped educate thousands of LSSU students, many who have gone on to become practicing physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists, physician assistants, physical therapists, athletic trainers and research scientists. And all of those LSSU alumni have helped make sick and injured people well. What a gift Chester has given us! Donors like Chester are the unsung heroes. Now it\u2019s our turn to show him our appreciation for the contribution he has made to educating our students. \nIf you have had an experience working with Chester in the anatomy lab at LSSU, please tell us your story.<\/a><\/strong> We are planning a celebration of his 100th birthday to acknowledge his donation and would love to include your experience of learning from Chester in the LSSU lab. Pictured above is Chester with a group of current students in the anatomy lab. Below that are Britton Ranson Olson '99 and Kathleen Hinds '75, both of whom remember Chester from when they were students, and now use him for a teaching aid as professors in the biology department.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n \n

2019 Mansfield Parent of the Year <\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
\n

Darlene was recognized by LSSU as the 2019 Mansfield Parent of the Year.<\/a><\/strong> Sarah nominated her mother with an essay she wrote on the theme, \u201cWhy my parent deserves to be the parent of the year.\u201d A committee comprised of faculty and staff reviewed the nominations for Parent of the Year and selected Sarah\u2019s essay as the winning entry. Ms. McNichol was honored with an award presented by LSSU President Rodney Hanley during the annual Alumni Awards banquet on October 11 during Great Lake State Weekend. The Parent of the Year received free lodging in an area hotel October 11-12; a lovely, personalized award; and complimentary tickets to all Great Lake State Weekend activities, courtesy of the LSSU Alumni Association. Congratulations to Sarah and her mother!<\/p><\/div>\n\n

Laker hockey in Plymouth & College Night with the Wings Jan. 31 \u2013 Feb. 1<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

The Lakers will take on the USA Hockey\u2019s National Team Development Program (Under-18) in Plymouth January 31, 2020. Game time is 7:00pm. The LSSU Alumni Association will host a pre-game social at CJ\u2019s restaurant inside the arena, starting at 5:00 pm. Come watch the Red Wings take on the New York Rangers with fellow LSSU alumni and friends on Saturday, February 1 at Little Caesars Arena.
