In September 2024, alumni, families, and friends gathered at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie to celebrate 50 years of women\u2019s athletics at LSSC-LSSU. The weekend, from September 19-21, was a chance to honor the women who helped build a legacy of strength, teamwork, and achievement.<\/p>\n
The weekend kicked off with “Munchies & Memories,” a casual event where alumni brought memorabilia\u2014photos, jerseys, and trophies\u2014sharing their stories and reconnecting. Many former athletes were excited to reminisce about their time at LSSC-LSSU, recalling moments of competition and teamwork. It was a chance to look back at how much women\u2019s sports at the university had grown over the years.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, the celebration continued with alumni games and meet-ups. Former athletes, some from the early years of women\u2019s athletics at LSSC-LSSU, played against each other in a volleyball match up. It was a lighthearted event, but it highlighted the lasting spirit of the LSSC-LSSU teams. Current athletes also took part in discussions with alumni, building connections across generations.<\/p>\n
The day ended with the Anniversary Dinner, where alumni and guests gathered for a cocktail reception, dinner, and speeches. The dinner included a silent auction to raise money for women\u2019s athletics at LSSU. Keynote speakers reflected on the journey of women\u2019s sports at the university and shared stories of challenges and successes.<\/p>\n
