Mike Andrews has been selected as the next head coach of the Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's and women's tennis programs, as announced by LSSU Athletic Director Tory Lindley on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally from Iron Mountain, Mich. in the Upper Peninsula, Andrews played No. 1 singles and doubles at the collegiate level at LSSU, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in recreation management with a minor in business. He is certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) for both tennis and pickleball and brings with him over 25 years of experience in the racquet industry. Sault Ste Marie, MI -- <\/strong>Tyson Edmondson<\/a> <\/dfn>(Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Hunter Soper<\/a> <\/dfn>(Lexington, Mich.) were recognized as the GLIAC's Men's Basketball Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office. Monday, November 18th.<\/span><\/div>\n

Edmondson shot the lights out in the Lakers' 96-94 victory over UIndy on Friday, finishing the day with a career-high 33 points while shooting 69% from the floor, including hitting on 7 of his 9 attempts from beyond the arc. Soper's defensive effort proved crucial in the Lakers' win against UIndy, denying the Greyhounds on several occasions with a pair of steals and two blocks all while playing strong defense throughout the entirety of the game to hold UIndy to only 24 points in the paint.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

LSSU Men's Hockey Player Timo Bakos Named Forward of the Week by the CCHA<\/strong><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

DEEPHAVEN, Minn. -\u00a0Timo Bakos<\/a>\u00a0(Augsburg, Germany) was selected as the CCHA Forward of the Week after scoring goals against Alaska-Anchorage, including his third game winning goal of the season, as announced by the league office on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday, Bakos found the back of the net midway through the third period to give his team a 4-3 lead, and on Saturday, he exploded for two more goals and an assist, including directing in the game winner at the 7:47 mark of the second period. He also proved to be efficient with his chances having put only four shots on goal throughout the weekend with three of them resulting in points on the scoreboard.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n

LSSU Men's Hockey Player Connor Milburn Named Forward of the Month by the CCHA<\/strong><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

DEEPHAVEN, Minn. -\u00a0Connor Milburn<\/a>\u00a0(Kamloops, B.C.) has been selected as the CCHA Forward of the Month for November, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Milburn led the nation in November points with 14 on the month that included 6 goals in his last five games. Of his ten games in the month, five of them were multi-point games, including a pair of three-point performances. Against CCHA competition (6 games), Milburn averaged an impressive 1.83 points per game.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n

Grace Bradford Named as the GLIAC's Defensive Player of the Week<\/span><\/strong><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -\u00a0Grace Bradford<\/a>\u00a0(Maple City, Mich.) was named the GLIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bradford's defensive efforts helped lead the Lakers to their first win of the season this week while contributing to LSSU holding opponents to an average of 56 points per game (49 at Tiffin and 63 at Walsh). On Thursday, Bradford recorded a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double with her rebounding helping to limit the Dragons to only three second chance points. She also proved to be tenacious on defense, recording three steals and a block. Then on Saturday, she protected the rim with three blocks while adding two more steals for a total of four blocks and five steals on the week. In addition, she also contributed 25 points and 8 rebounds to help lead her team to a comeback victory over the Walsh Cavaliers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. -\u00a0One of Frankenmuth High School's leaders on the basketball is Sault Ste. Marie-bound after signing to play for the Lakers. Clare Conzelmann has proven herself a force to be reckoned with during her time as a Frankenmuth Eagle, helping take her team to the state championships in 2022. Clare was named Captain of her team last year and decided on LSSU after visiting the campus for practice.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

50 Years of Women\u2019s Athletics at LSSC-LSSU<\/strong><\/p><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

In September 2024, alumni, families, and friends gathered at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie to celebrate 50 years of women\u2019s athletics at LSSC-LSSU. The weekend, from September 19-21, was a chance to honor the women who helped build a legacy of strength, teamwork, and achievement.<\/p>\n

The weekend kicked off with \u201cMunchies & Memories,\u201d a casual event where alumni brought memorabilia\u2014photos, jerseys, and trophies\u2014sharing their stories and reconnecting. Many former athletes were excited to reminisce about their time at LSSC-LSSU, recalling moments of competition and teamwork. It was a chance to look back at how much women\u2019s sports at the university had grown over the years.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the celebration continued with alumni games and meet-ups. Former athletes, some from the early years of women\u2019s athletics at LSSC-LSSU, played against each other in a volleyball match up. It was a lighthearted event, but it highlighted the lasting spirit of the LSSC-LSSU teams. Current athletes also took part in discussions with alumni, building connections across generations.<\/p>\n

The day ended with the Anniversary Dinner, where alumni and guests gathered for a cocktail reception, dinner, and speeches. The dinner included a silent auction to raise money for women\u2019s athletics at LSSU. Keynote speakers reflected on the journey of women\u2019s sports at the university and shared stories of challenges and successes.<\/p>\n

The weekend was more than a celebration of the past\u2014it was a reminder of the impact women\u2019s athletics has had at LSSC-LSSU. The alumni\u2019s commitment to supporting the next generation of female athletes ensured that the legacy would continue for many years to come.<\/p>\n
