Lake Superior State University (LSSU) is proud to announce its outstanding performance in the prestigious 2024 U.S. News & World Report\u2019s Best Colleges rankings for Regional Colleges in the U.S. They earned top honors by being recognized as the #1 Top Public School in the Regional Colleges Midwest category, solidifying their position as a leading institution of higher education.\u00a0 LSSU is known for its commitment to quality teaching and hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for rewarding careers.<\/p>\n

The U.S. News and World Report rankings, released on September 18, 2023, are based upon factors such as graduation and retention rates, social mobility, reputation, faculty resources, financial resources per student, and graduate indebtedness.\u00a0 The U.S. is divided into four regions and the Midwest region includes 12 states.\u00a0\u00a0 To be classified as a regional college among the rankings, the college or university must focus on undergraduate education and award fewer than half of the degrees in liberal arts disciplines.<\/p>\n

Interim President Lynn Gillette expressed his delight at this remarkable achievement, saying, \u201cThis is who we are.\u00a0 We provide an extraordinary education that prepares our students for a job in their field and then to be leaders in their field.\u00a0 Lake Superior State University continues to uphold its mission of providing accessible, high-quality education to our students. This ranking reflects our commitment to excellence in teaching and learning and preparing our students for high-paying careers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many of the categories considered in the rankings are part of LSSU\u2019s Strategic Plan.\u00a0 In particular, LSSU has goals related to graduation and retention rates, social mobility, and quality teaching.\u00a0 LSSU\u2019s low faculty-to-student ratio allows for exceptional education and mentoring.<\/p>\n

Interim Provost Kimberly Muller added, \u201cLSSU is resolute in our commitment to experiential learning.\u00a0 Our faculty and staff work tirelessly to create a supportive and enriching learning environment. It is gratifying that the U.S. News and World Reports\u2019 metrics affirm the direction we have taken as a university.\u201d<\/p>\n
