Lake Superior State University again ranks as one of the best institutions in higher education, according to U.S. News & World Report.\nThe 2021 college rankings singled out LSSU in three categories that it had also made in 2020: best regional colleges in the Midwest; top public schools, regional colleges, in the Midwest; and best undergraduate engineering programs nationwide. Lake Superior State University Receives National Endowment for the Arts Grant to Host \u201cNEA Big Read,\u201d with Campus, Community to Study Louise Erdrich\u2019s Acclaimed 2012 Novel The Round House<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
\n

Lake Superior State University received a $14,850 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to host a campus and community program called the \u201cNEA Big Read.\u201d The NEA Big Read offers a range of titles to choose from for collective study, and the LSSU family and neighbors will peruse Louise Erdrich\u2019s 2012 prize-winning novel,\u00a0<\/span>The Round House<\/em>, a suspense tale set on the Ojibwe reservation of North Dakota. LSSU\u2019s Big Read also includes several related features: a keynote speaker, panel discussion, documentary film screening, and gallery exhibit, all on overlapping themes. <\/span> Read more<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

Lake Superior State University Opened Newest Location in Central Michigan<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
\n

Lake Superior State University opened its newest location in St. Helen, Mich., for the fall 2020 semester. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at the area site, which is at Charlton Heston Academy in Richfield Township, Roscommon County.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the priorities in LSSU\u2019s strategic plan is to generate more community partnerships and engagement, and I can\u2019t think of a better example than this,\u201d said LSSU President Rodney S. Hanley. \u201cNot only does it expand our Superior footprint once more. It also enhances the quality of life of the region, in this case in a part of the state that has limited access to the pursuit of higher education within reasonable driving distance.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s part of our mission to create opportunities for our CHA graduates and our community members to advance their college and career readiness. Governor Whitmer Appoints Dr. Jason Garvon To Michigan Wildlife Council<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
\n

Lake Superior State University faculty member, Dr. Jason Garvon was recently appointed by Governor Whitmer to the Michigan Wildlife Council. Dr. Garvon was one of three individuals recently appointed to the Council. The Michigan Wildlife Council is entrusted with educating the public about the importance of wildlife conservation and its role in preserving Michigan\u2019s great outdoor heritage for future generations.\n\nDr. Garvon is a professor of biology at Lake Superior State University and the President of the Faculty Association. He is the advisor for the LSSU Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and a former member of the Eastern Upper Peninsula Citizens Advisory Council.
