Only a matter of days remain to submit a nomination for Lake Superior State University\u2019s 2019 Word Banishment List, to be released on Dec. 31. Nominations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lssu.edu\/banished-words-list\/submit-a-word-to-banish\/\">will be taken<\/a> until Dec. 26.\n For every new year since 1976, LSSU has issued its \u201cList of Words Banished from the Queen\u2019s English for Mis-Use, Over-Use or General Uselessness.\u201d LSSU accepts nominations for banishment from all over the world, covering all manner of word or phrase worthy of exile.\n\nUniversity officials note that even with this year\u2019s midterm election-year lift, most entries don\u2019t necessarily come from politics. Nominations for the 2018 list rolled in at a steady pace from the fields of academia, advertising, business, the military, sports, as well as politics.\n Nominations for 2019\u2019s list, along with compelling reasons for banishment, can be <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/BanishFirstCall\">submitted online<\/a>. LSSU Students, staff, and community members submitted their proposals. The theme for the 2019 TEDxLSSU event is \u201c-isms,\u201d where speakers will explore innovative ideas worth sharing sparked by this now ubiquitous suffix.\n\nTEDx events are local, self-organized programs that bring people together to share a TED-like experience under the guidance of the international TED Conference organization. The TEDxLSSU event will feature live speakers who will share their unique insights and perspectives to inspire the audience to think in new and creative ways. They also received updates on the $13.2M construction of the Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE), and activities leading toward a public-private-partnership to build new residence halls.\n\nThe new certificate programs are in E-Marketing, International Business, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).\n\nCertificates are roughly half the work required for an academic minor, and are specifically tailored for working adults as well as LSSU students regardless of major. Greil has received the Pistis Award from the Michigan Charter Boat Association (MCBA) in recognition for more than 40 years of work on Michigan\u2019s sport fishery. MCBA also donated $1,000 to LSSU to start a scholarship in the association\u2019s name that will benefit a student of at least junior status studying fisheries &amp; wildlife management at Lake State, with a focus on fisheries.
